spiced pear sidecar

Even though we would create seasonal cocktail recipes for our restaurant on a regular basis, we didn’t usually make cocktails at home.  It was more of a treat for us when we dined out.  With the restrictions of Covid-19 this year and not being able to go to restaurants for a few months, we started mixing different combinations at home.

One of our alcohol reps had brought us a bottle of St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur so that we could experiment with it.  I love the cocktails of the 1920’s and wanted to make a variation of a Sidecar.  The spiced pear liqueur pairs perfectly with the cognac, orange and lemon of this classic drink, making it a great choice for holiday entertaining.

The Recipe

Spiced Pear Sidecar

  • 1.5 ounces Cognac (I used Augier Le Sauvage)
  • 3/4 ounce St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur
  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce Clement Creole Shrubb (or orange liqueur)
  • Pear or orange for garnish
  1. Placed all four spirits in a shaker cup filled with ice.
  2. Shake cocktail for 30 seconds to a minute.  Tip: The key to a good shaken cocktail is that the shaker cup is starting to freeze to your hand (see the frosted shaker cup to the left).
  3. Strain cocktail into a coupe or martini glass.  Garnish with a pear slice or an orange swath.  Tip:  You will know if you have shaken it enough because the cocktail should have a thin layer of ice that forms across the top.
  4. Cheers!
