One of the French Riviera’s most visited cities, Nice is known for its ideal weather and beautiful beaches.  Walking along the famed Promenade des Anglais that stretches across the entire front of the city, you will see the Mediterranean Sea to one side and iconic buildings like the Hotel Negresco to the other.  While it is a popular summer destination, Nice is beautiful all seasons.  Even though it is colder, we loved visiting in the spring to avoid crowds but still have great weather for exploring the city.

Vieux Nice

We stayed in the heart of Old Town, Vieux Nice, and I can’t say enough about the location.  It is central to nearly everything including the beach, promenade, restaurants, bakeries and markets.  Nice is extremely walkable, but there is also a tram available that runs throughout the city that costs roughly $2 or around $7 for an all day pass.

The Cheesemaker’s Cave has been our favorite restaurant experience ever, from eating in the cellar of this old town Nice building to the sommelier handpicking the wine to pair with our food.  You won’t want to leave here without trying their tartiflette

SALADE NIÇOISE

A Provençal classic, this iconic salad is composed of tuna, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, green beans and potatoes.  Pairs great with a chilled glass of rosé wine

This bakery has a beautiful assortment of traditional French breads and pastry classics including religieuse, the stacked choux pastry that is named as such because they look like little nuns
